Today, June 18th, Steven made the long journey to San Antonio, TX where he will put up with teenagers and officers in boot camp/basic training. Needless to say, I was quite emotional as he will be gone for eight and a half weeks! He was able to call in between flights and had a cool story. Before he left for his first flight, Steven, myself and Steven's mom and dad ate lunch at the airport cafe. A man in the corner began talking with Steven about going to basic training. He was ex-Army. On the airplane, this same man was sitting a few seats away from Steven. He asked Steven if he was nervous, what he was most looking forward to, etc. Another man overheard and joined in the conversation - he was an ex-Marine. As they were talking, the flight attendant overheard that Steven was on his way to basic. She got on the plane intercom and announced that Steven was on his way to basic and that all the passengers should give him a round of applause which they did. So, although Steven was embarrassed, it made me proud and happy to know that Steven is being watched out for. He will be such an amazing and strong airman and I couldn't be prouder of him!
His last phone call was at 10:30 PM, telling me that he had made it safely and that he would be able to call me in a week. So...until then :)
